Fundraising

You can help support the Basingstoke Canal Society by contributing to our fundraising efforts.

The Basingstoke Canal Society promotes and campaigns for the sustainable future of the Canal as a navigation and public amenity. The Society was registered as a charity in 1977 and raises money which is used to fund the maintenance and improvement works undertaken by more than 250 volunteers.

The Society relies on its fundraising to continue to support the canal.  Currently our funds come from a number of sources, which include:

How we spend the money

The funds that the above activities generate is spent in several ways, however all of it is invested back into maintaining and improving the canal as well as specific projects. The projects that we are currently fundraising for include;

  • Replacing our passenger boat “Kitty” which will cost in the region of £200,000.
  • A museum website to include access to our extensive archives.
  • Information signs along the canal tow path.
