Mikron Theatre on Tuesday 16th August at The Mill House, North Warnborough

After many hot weeks, the rain came to create uncertainty about an outdoor performance on the evening of 16th August. The indoor function room was made available by our hosts at The Mill House; however prospects for a clear evening and a large audience led to a last minute decision to move outside.

The performance was ‘Raising Agents’ a humorous musical celebrating the centenary of the Women’s Institute, was enjoyed by all. The versatile Mikron Theatre team once again put on a splendid show for about 150 enthusiasts of Hampshire in close proximity to the canal. Fortunately the drizzle held off until the very end of the performance.

Phil Riley thanked the performers for their amusing entertainment, the staff of the Mill House for the use of the delightful venue and the audience for turning out on a dubious evening.

** A big thank you to Roger, Sandie & Phil for their assistance on the evening.**

Odiham Raft Race on Sunday 4th September at Colt Hill

The afternoon kicked-off at 1 pm with a splendid display of canoe and kayak types and skills from the Basingstoke and District Canoe Club. Then at the appointed time, the eleven rafts of varying shapes, sizes and decoration set off in the direction of Lodge Farm using random paddling styles, as their supporters cheered them on from the towpath. Turning at a mid-channel buoy the tiring paddlers raced back to Odiham Wharf to beat the clock.

Some of the weary paddlers took part in the Raft Tug-of-War; which provided a hilarious spectacle in which most people on the bank as well as on the water got wet. The Mayor of Basingstoke & Deane viewed the spectacle presented the prizes. An entertaining day was had by all.

John Ross came along with his painted dinghy and canal art display The BCS Events Team provided three bank-side marshals and volunteers manned the stall to sell some 2023 calendars, publications and souvenirs. We assisted dismantle the beer tent and clear the site before heading back to the garage to store our kit.
