Basingstoke Festival of Transport
The events team turned out in force at the Basingstoke Festival of Transport on Sunday 19th of May. After a chilly start, the sun brought out the residents of Basingstoke to view the amazing display of vehicles and the stall was well attended, with people making enquiries and willing to chat.
Graham Corser was on hand to provide some current information about the “Last Five Miles Project” supported by our handy double-sided map boards. Mark Gaines prepared a good report in time for publishing in the Spring Newsletter. A great start to the season.
Victoria Day, Aldershot
We were offered a cancellation stall at the Victoria Day in Aldershot on Saturday 8th June. A successful day talking to some of the constant flow of people (including Rushmoor councillors) passing along Union Street.
A display of animals found on the canal was put together from calendar photographs to align with the theme of ‘Carnival of Animals’.
Volunteer Share and Care, Netley
The Basingstoke Canal Authority (BCA) asked if we would be able to provide a display at the event hosted by Hampshire Countryside Service at the chapel in the Royal Victoria Country Park. Two BCA Rangers were there as well as Ian, who received an award for Long Service.
A visual display circulating for most of the day included figures of how much volunteering time is logged in the county. The Basingstoke Canal Volunteers contribute a huge amount of time.
An afternoon session was open to the public from 2-4pm which wasn’t particularly well attended, but gave all the stall holders the opportunity to chat, compare notes and ideas.
