Nancy Larcombe was an artist and author who toured the country in her boats, painting and writing for various magazines. She was a member of the Guild of Waterway Artists and lived in a 40ft narrow boat that she named Nancy Bell moored near the Basingstoke Canal Centre. She also had a small butty called Towed Haulwhich looked like a mock-Tudor cottage and was used as her studio. Towed Haul was opened to the public every Sunday.
Nancy was brought up in Huddersfield where, encouraged by her father, she began to paint at an early age before spending a year of more formal training at Manchester Art School. She died in autumn 2010 and donated all of her unsold artwork to the Basingstoke Canal Authority.
