Boat Rally, AGM & Social event – Saturday 14th May

A superb sunny day made the Surrey Heath Show attracted a good attendance.

We welcomed some new volunteers to help at the BCS stand and displays in the show ground, which was a great success. John Ross brought his lovely painted dingy Elizabeth-Rose, which created considerable excitement not so much with children, but with parents who had photographs with Rosie & Jim. Many donated to the Kitty II collection box.

John had spent a considerable amount of time in previous weeks cleaning and repainting the commemorative plaque on the towpath beside Frimley Lodge Park. The Boat Rally here was smaller than originally planned. Our thanks go to Liz and Tim Dodwell, the Byfleet Boat Club and visiting Cotswold Canal Cruising Club for making a great show along the towpath. Unfortunately the canoe display was cancelled.

The delayed celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Canal’s re-opening in 1991 attracted a good attendance to the AGM and a barbecue at Mytchett. The Canal Centre café served around 140 grills, Roughditch3 played a mix of music to entertain us and Celia’s Quiz kept everyone’s brains ticking over as everyone chatted with old friends.

Thank goodness the heavy rain held off until Sunday.
