Coronation of King George III Celebrations Promoting Community Volunteering – 7th May

Surrey Heath Mayor’s Family Fun Day and Coronation Celebrations

At Frimley Lodge Park we had a great stall and team promoting BCS membership and volunteering. The stall was visited by new local councillors who expressed interest in the canal and its benefits to the community. The Buzzer Box proved to be a great attraction and raised enough to cover our costs. All enjoyed a day out in the sunshine.

Boat Rally at The Fox and Hounds, was achieved with the support of loyal BCS boat owners. The BCS and Sea Scouts stalls set up to promote canal interest.

A group of board paddlers dressed in national colours drifted past and the sea scouts launched two rafts as planned, arriving at the Fox and Hounds wet and exhausted. All seemed to have fun and spectators on the bank enjoyed it.

The pub barbecue and bands are always a popular attraction and a dry day helped overall success. The Fleet Coronation Committee were suitably happy.

The parade of community and voluntary organisations along Fleet High Street was a real spectacle, with hundreds lining the streets. My initial vision for the parade was sadly not achieved, but there were five of us, and it was marvelous to take part.

Calthorpe Park was packed with people after the parade and we had numerous visitors to the stall with considerable interest in the Society and community volunteering.
