MIDSUMMER MORNING DAWN CANAL CRUISE WITH CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST
By popular demand, we will run again this ‘bucket list’ adventure on JPll, an opportunity to see the sunrise on midsummer’s day 2023. Join us at Colt Hill Wharf, departing at 04:00, as we head eastwards along the canal to catch the first glimpse of the sun at dawn. Sunrise is at 04:49.
The trip lasts about 2 1/2 hours, turning around near The Barley Mow before heading back to Colt Hill wharf.
There’s a chance to see a variety of wildlife too, so bring your cameras and binoculars.
The galley will be open for a selection of hot and cold drinks for the duration of the trip and continental breakfast will be served on the return trip.
Cruise times may be extended in low water conditions.
A continental breakfast (e.g. fruit juice, coffee, croissants) is included in the ticket price. If you have special dietary requirements, please note when booking, or contact the Booking Team. jpbookings@basingstoke-canal.org.uk
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please contact us before purchasing your tickets. We have a very small kitchen area and cannot guarantee to be free from cross-contamination. Please e-mail jpbookings@basingstoke-canal.org.uk
Cruise in the peaceful surroundings of the Basingstoke Canal
The canal is an SSSI, and not only serves as a local recreational amenity but is also a notable wildlife habitat.
The alkaline water from the chalk springs at Greywell and the acid water content eastward where the canal passes through heathland, has given rise to one of the largest varieties of aquatic plants and invertebrates in the United Kingdom.
As many as 25 of Britain’s 39 species of dragonflies and damselflies inhabit the canal.
You may get lucky and see a Kingfisher that is considered to be a lucky bird. You can also see herons swans, ducks, geese, moorhens (often with young) and various local floras.
