Original painting, not a print, buyer collects from Basingstoke Canal Centre.

A large, striking and atmospheric painting that the photographs because of reflections on the frame glass don’t do justice to. Highly recommend you pop down to the canal centre and look at this one if you’re interested.

Nancy Larcombe was an artist and author who toured the country in her boats, painting and writing for various magazines.  She was a member of the Guild of Waterway Artists and lived in a 40ft narrow boat that she named Nancy Bell moored near the Basingstoke Canal Centre. She also had a small butty called Towed Haul which looked like a mock-Tudor cottage and was used as her studio. Towed Haul was opened to the public every Sunday.

Nancy was brought up in Huddersfield where, encouraged by her father, she began to paint at an early age before spending a year of more formal training at Manchester Art School.

Nancy died in autumn 2010 and donated all of her unsold artwork to the Basingstoke Canal Authority. We are selling this painting to help raise money to replace our community trip boat Kitty.

If you would like to see the painting before buying it please ask at the Basingstoke Canal Centre in Mytchett.
