Queen’s Award

The Society received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2018 in recognition of our voluntary efforts over more than 50 years

This unique UK national honour, equivalent to an MBE for groups, was created by Her Majesty to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and to recognise the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups of volunteers. Needless to say, the Society was delighted to receive it.

The Society was presented with a glass trophy and certificate signed by Her Majesty during a return visit to the canal by HRH The Duke of Kent. He previously attended to formally re-open the canal in 1991.
