New website performing well!

In 2019 the Society embarked on a project to renew our website so that we could show visitors just how beautiful the canal is, a bit about the history and what is happening day to day. A great deal of hard work followed and in August last year the website was launched!

Since then volunteers alongside our development partner Treefrog in Woking have continued to improve and polish the website with more plans to come. Here’s a taste of what you can do:

  • Find out about our membership levels as well as sign up and pay online.
  • Apply to become a volunteer and help maintain the canal and Society.
  • Access a personal membership account with details of local discounts and other benefits.
  • Donate to our cause and find out about leaving a legacy in your will.
  • Book and pay online for boat trips on one of our great boats in Odiham or Woking.
  • Buy books, tea towels, vouchers and other products from our online shop.

There’s also a great deal of information on the website about the history of the canal and the Society as well as back issues of our bulletins and member’s only newsletters.

For the future, we’ve just embarked upon a project to add a complete Wellbeing and Activities section for 2022 so that visitors to the canal can get the best out of their day.

Of course, all technical projects like this come at a cost but even with the negative effects of Covid our shop sales have seen a huge increase and membership registrations are now at over 1000. Add the revenue from boat trips and the website has easily paid for itself as well as raised the profile of the Basingstoke Canal in the community!

If you’re interested in any aspects of the Society, or want to find out more about some of the improvement projects we are undertaking, please make a visit to our website at www.basingstoke-canal.org.uk on your computer, tablet or mobile and catch up with the latest news!
