Another piece of construction work was completed by the Society workparty recently, namely a piled temporary landing stage immediately upstream of the North Warnborough lift bridge on the off- (lift mechanism) side.
For a while boaters, and especially members of the John Pinkerton crew, have been pointing out that it is somewhat difficult for the bridge operators to disembark safely at this location when returning from St John’s Castle. Typically, a crew member has instead left the boat at the castle and walked up ahead. This is true also for boats going the other way – the operator usually gets left behind and has to catch up on foot.
This may be good for them you may say, but there are reasons why it may be necessary for all the crew to remain on the boat. We hope that the new landing stage (right) will ease this situation for bridge operators on boats cruising in either direction.
